Mrs. Purkerson

.Welcome to 6th grade English Language Arts! I am so excited to begin this new school year with you! We have so many wonderful learning adventures ahead! Our biggest emphasis in 6th grade is growing in our reading comprehension. The most important skill you can gain in school is the ability to read well and understand what you read. An important part of this goal is our participation in the SAMS 40 Book Challenge. Every 9 weeks you will need to complete 10 books (120 pages also counts as 1 book). To accomplish this goal, Mrs. Hill and I ask that you read at least 30 minutes every night. When you complete a book, you need to either take an AR test and show proficiency by passing the test with an 80% or higher or write a one page summary of the book.

Parents are always welcome to email me or call with questions or concerns. I can be reached by calling SAMS or emailing me through this website. Powerschool is the tool for accessing grades through the Parent Portal, Schoolnet assessments, and other helpful resources for reinforcing the standards through Canvas.

I will be available for tutoring every Wednesday from 3:30-4:30 pm in my classroom. Please let me know one day in advance if you will be staying.

If you miss class due to sickness or a doctor's appointment, you can access our lessons and assignments through the following link:

Again, I am so excited about the year ahead, and I'm very happy to be your teacher!

Blessings,
